What does the Progressive Agriculture Foundation provide for each Safety Day?
The Progressive Agriculture Foundation provides the following support for communities selected to participate in the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day program:
  • Training for the Safety Day coordinator to work within his/her local community to plan and implement a Progressive Agriculture Safety Day.
  • Up-to-date program materials that provide the information needed to conduct a Progressive Agriculture Safety Day.
  • A T-shirt and take-home bag for each participant and volunteer.
  • Publicity for the Safety Days through 11 farm media companies.
  • Sample media releases for the coordinator or publicity committee to personalize and send to local media.
  • A promotional video to help the coordinator recruit others to assist with the event.
  • Liability and excess medical insurance to cover all who attend each Safety Day.
  • A large "Welcome" banner to use at the event.
  • A specific section of our Web site dedicated to the support of Safety Day coordinators.
  • Information sharing on available resources.
  • Evaluation of the overall Safety Day program in order to improve future Progressive Agriculture Safety Days.
  • Reminders, updates, and other information via the Internet, E-mail or regular mail. Progressive Agriculture Safety Day program staff members are always available to answer questions and help coordinators with problems specific to their Safety Day.
How much work is involved in conducting a Progressive Agriculture Safety Day?
After a coordinator attends training, the work of planning and conducting a Progressive Agriculture Safety Day is his/her responsibility. They must pull together local volunteers to help:
  • Plan
  • Secure donations
  • Setup
  • Cleanup
  • Prepare lunch
  • Serve as instructors, group leaders, safety officers and photographers
While the Safety Day program provides the basic structure for a Safety Day, the local planning committee must determine:
  • Whether the Safety Day will be a community (open to anyone interested) or school (open to only certain schools or grades) event.
  • The location, date, and hours.
  • What ages and how many participants will attend.
  • How many and which farm safety and health topics to teach.
  • Which resources to send home.
  • The amount of funds needed and how to secure them.
Coordinators are encouraged to reach out to all area groups or individuals involved in farming or farm-related activities to help seek assistance with the Safety Day.
How much does it cost to hold a Safety Day?
The actual out-of-pocket costs depend on the specific needs of each Safety Day and the items that are available free of charge. Possible sources for donated goods, services and funds include local businesses, organizations and individuals.
Items that you may need funds for include:
  • Coordinator Training registration fee ($50) per person (two person limit for each Safety Day)
  • Travel expenses for the coordinator to attend a training session (mileage or airfare; as well as hotel and food costs)
  • Fees for securing a site for the event
  • Food for the participants and volunteers (usually one meal, plus beverages and snacks)
  • Opening or closing speaker fees
  • Printing of materials
  • Postage
  • Items for take-home bags
  • Supplies for location setup and cleanup
  • Fees for renting audiovisual equipment, microphones, etc.
  • Other miscellaneous expenses
